Making Cents Of Solar- Part I

Solar Panels

As you look around, you will see that more and more solar panels are being installed each year. Does it make sense (or cents) for your home?

Why Choose Solar?

There are some very obvious benefits to solar power. Beyond the environmental impact of reducing your carbon footprint, having solar panels powering your home helps to reduce your utility bills. Though most solar panels are leased and have monthly payment plans attached to them, your bill remains at a relatively constant rate for the life the panels. This assists in budgeting, and shields you from rising energy costs.

“What Is Needed For Solar To Be Installed On My Home?”

For your home to qualify for solar panels to be installed, you will need to have a roof that is A) in good condition, and B) has plenty of roof area to install panels onto.

Recently replaced roofs are great candidates for new solar panels. Once a roof reaches the 5-7 year mark, it is more likely that the shingles will be damaged during installation, and after the 10 year mark, I would not recommend having panels installed.

You will also want to have a roof that has rather large south and west facing slopes. For us in Texas & Louisiana, these are the directions that we will see the most sunlight from.

To determine the viability of panels on your roof, you will need a qualified installer to run projections based on your current electric usage, as well as your roof size and slopes.

I will go into a bit more detail on the solar panel install, and the available battery backups, later on.
